is an exhibition showing at the Mezzanine Gallery of the Bay Discovery Centre in Glenelg as part of the
SALA Festival . These paintings by talented artist
Cat Leonard have a humorous touch to them, and this is a must see exhibition for any car lovers who like art.
The exhibition features paintings of cars. The idea is not to simply enjoy the images of the cars, but to imagine what the owners are up to while their cars sit in the parking lot. Each image has its own explanation of where the owners are, while the car sits unused. Leonard uses a great mix of colour that really brings this exhibition to life.
The paintings are well suited to their location at the
Bay Discovery Centre . They appear to be a celebration of not only men and women, and their cars, but also of the beach, and the life that goes on around it. Whether it is the sand and sea, or the seagulls that sit perched near the cars, it is clear that these are celebrating important aspects of Australian life.
This is not a huge exhibition, but it is well worth a look when you're in the area. To get to the exhibition you'll walk through the Bay Discovery Centre, which you can also enjoy as you learn all about the history of Glenelg and life on the beach. Perhaps while you're in the area you'll also be able to go buy some fish and chips to enjoy on the beach, while your car sits, parked somewhere, by the beachfront.
Leonard's exhibition runs from the 5th of August till the 25th of September.
