Yet once you step inside, you realise there is so much more available at Beefy's than just your humble meat pie. But let's be realistic, once you have your mind set on a meat pie, you'll be hard-pressed to change your mind.
Beefy's does pies, and it does them very well. In fact, since 2000, Beefy's has been a consistent top performer in national pie competitions. Most recently, the pie franchise took home a Gold Award in 2011 for its Red Curry Lamb Pie, Silver for its Signature Steak Pie and Thai Green Curry Chicken Pie, and a Bronze medal for its Aussie Special aka Ned Kelly Pie, Mexican Pie and Angus Steak Pie.
Beefy's has four locations across the Sunshine Coast; Buderim, Aussie World (near Ettamogah Pub), Glasshouse Mountains and Ningi (on the way to Bribie Island).
Our most recent visit took us to the Buderim store. The weather was overcast and slightly chilly, putting us in a perfect pie-eating mood. Unfortunately, a lot of other people must have been in the same mood, because by the time we got there in the afternoon, many of our favourite flavours had sold out. Nevertheless, my partner happily settled for a Steak and Kidney Pie, while I opted for a Steak Pie with Mushy Peas. Both pies were crunchy and light on the outside, and rich and moist on the inside. My serving of mushy peas was delivered in a takeaway container, which I found to be a perfect option for those on the go. Most bakeries are known to slop the mushy peas on top of the pie, leaving the peas to soak through the paper bag and pastry, so this container was very appreciated.
Things to know before you go: 1. Beefy's offers bulk packs and family pies, which can prove a cost effective option. 2. For non-pie lovers, Beefy's offers sandwiches, rolls, sweets and cakes. 3. The Glasshouse and Aussie World stores offer dine-in tables.
4. Beefy's also sell the essentials - bread and milk.
