Bedazzled Burlesque is a 60-minute show set in the 1950s comprising of sensual scantily dressed ladies and sexy handsome gentlemen to excite and entertain you. The program compere is Madam Cat Pur (Catherine Purling), who with her faux-French accent, combines bawdy jokes with her introductions of the various entertainers and seductive striptease performers and their song and dance routines.

Bedazzled Burlesque is a program consisting of exciting young local talent who pay tribute to several stars of the 50s era; Marilyn Monroe, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin,Sammy Davis Jr and Jessica Rabbit (from Who Framed Roger Rabbit). Some of the performers sing and dance, while others mime songs by the original recording artists as they reenact their glamorous and sultry performances while removing their attire.

The show is well paced and has some outstanding moments - particuarly the song and dance numbers. The girls, Maryann Boettche, Kristen Tommasini and Kahli Steven are entertaining, beautiful, seductive and sexy as promised. The guys, Michael Coumi and David Daradan, also gained lots of audience reaction and praise for their performances.

There were lots of laughter and occasional words of encouragement and direction from the men in the audience, but I noticed it was mainly the women who showed how much they enjoyed the humour, especially when the male artist, David Daradan disrobed and the resulting surprise climax to his act.

Madam Cat Lou Pur was bright, confident and engaged well with her audience, and although her jokes were well received, her humour did appear a little repetitive, and more variety would have lifted her performance.

The memorable moments included funny routines, good impersonations, lively tap dancing and alluring dance acts. We all know how difficult it must be for a performer to impersonate a famous entertainer or personality when we are so familiar with their distinctive mannerisms, gestures, voice and body movements.

There were fleeting moments when the acts may have fallen a little short of the audience's expectations, but this troupe of young talent can rightfully claim credit for providing such brave and entertaining tributes to some very famous entertainers.

Bedazzled Burlesque can be found in the Gluttony - Excess Theatre in Rymill Park.
