In love with your hometown of Brisbane?

Fascinated by its history?

Enthralled by its architecture?

Enchanted by its wild places?

Amazed by its cultural diversity?

Entertained by its vibrant arts and culture scene?

Share your enthusiasm with the world by volunteering as a Brisbane Greeter. It doesn't matter whether you are a Brisbanite born and bred, or have adopted the capital of the Sunshine State as your home. If you are keen to share your local knowledge with our many visitors, complete the online application form on www.brisbanegreeters.com.au

The Greeter movement is a worldwide phenomenon with its genesis in New York in the 1990s. Cities as diverse as London and Tel-Aviv are part of the network. Melbourne and Adelaide are the only other Australian cities.

Greeters are asked to conduct tours on a regular basis (at least once a month), sharing their personal stories, favourite locations and experiences. Basic training is provided and experienced Greeters will familiarise trainees with the set tours departing daily from the Brisbane Visitors Information Centre at 10 am. You may have a special interest and expertise such as bird watching in the Brisbane area which could be requested by a visitor online as a customised tour. A previous request was by a French journalist wishing to visit Brisbane's organic restaurants!

Volunteers of all ages are required. Young people training in hospitality and tourism may find the weekends most suitable for their involvement. Voluntary experience with Brisbane Greeters will look good on the CV when applying for paid positions. The program is also well suited to retirees who don't wish to sit at home in front of the telly with a crocheted blanket on their knees. Brisbane's Seniors have a wealth of experience in many fields, and much of this translates well to the position of volunteer guide. Don't let your talents go to waste. Get out and meet and greet the world!
