Situated in a charming historical building that was erected in 1877, Beav's Bar is one of the more unusual interesting bars I have been to and has a real uni student feel to it, but they were also accepting older foreign type patrons, such as myself.
This eccentric bar has rooms and stuff everywhere. The two rooms to the left and right of the entrance are retro decorated all the way with crazy wallpaper (yes, wallpaper does still exist), couches, cabinets, tables, lamps, pictures and weird looking clocks. Each room has its own fireplace to cosy up to in the winter.
The main bar had an upbeat vibe and an acoustic performance to boot. The highlight of the main bar would have to be the row of suspended Barbie dolls hovering above the bar, as well as propped up across all the drink fridges.
The bar has an ok selection of beers, wines, ciders and is probably targeted towards the typical clientele that frequents the bar. There are some big communal couches where you can sit and enjoy the live music.
It was time to venture to the toilet and it was an adventure at that. Not the nicest, cleanest bathroom I have seen. It actually felt like I was standing in the bathroom of a uni student who has no ability to hygienically maintain a bathroom. But in defence of good old Beav's, I have seen worse.
From the bathroom I could hear some wailing coming from the other room, I double checked to make sure no noise was coming out of my mouth and upon investigating found that Wednesday is open microphone night for up and coming Geelong wannabe idols. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, so I opted not to ruin the fun by throwing my hat into the ring for a sing.
The bar doesn't do food, but does have rooms available for functions and can recommend catering companies if required.
This is a great bar for a beer and a catch up or for enjoying some acoustical talents or if you are up for a bit of fun on Wednesday for Karaoke night.
