Critically acclaimed musical Beautiful has arrived
Carole King, the legendary singer-songwriter, rose to stardom in the 1960's with her heartfelt songs. Today, Carole King's incredible journey has been immortalized in Beautiful - The Carole King Musical.
Currently playing at Her Majesty for a limited season, the musical boasts an array of popular hits including: (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, Take Good Care of My Baby, On Broadway, One Fine Day, It's Too Late, We Gotta Get Out of This Place and Beautiful.
Beautiful - The Carole King Musical revolves around the lives of musical legends Carole King and Gerry Goffin and their highs and lows in music and love. The biographical musical delves into King and Goffins's love story, which eventually was torn apart by tragedy, substance abuse, infidelity and the struggles of fame.
Esther Hannaford plays the role of Carole King, and successfully captures the essence of King with her soulful notes and powerful voice.
Carole's love interest and lyricist, Gerry Goffin, was played by Josh Piterman, who added warmth to the stage with his uninhibited portrayal of Gerry. Hannaford's and Piterman's chemistry felt natural and the comedy weaved throughout the narrative was a brilliant addition and helped to keep the story fresh and lively.
Although King and Goffin were highly successful they had tough competition from fellow songwriters Cynthia Weil (Lucy Maunder) and Barry Mann (Mat Verevis). Maunder and Verevis added drama to the musical and helped to keep the pace moving.
The ensemble was outstanding and special mention goes to Marc Bruni for his incredible direction and music director, Daniel Edmonds. The audience clearly loved the show and gave a well-earned standing ovation.
Beautiful - The Carole King Musical is brilliantly produced and performed and the momentum keeps going to the very end. Highly recommended for Carole King fans.
