A beautiful new musical has premiered in Brisbane this weekend to a well deserved standing ovation. With an inspirational true story, a strong cast and legendary songs, hits all the right notes.



Beautiful follows Carole King's incredible rise from teenage songwriter to global sensation and features hit songs from the 60s and 70s. Beautiful explores Carole King's relationship with her first husband and songwriting partner, Gerry Goffin, as well as her friendship with songwriting duo, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.

Featuring hit songs including "I Feel The Earth Move", "Locomotion" and "You've Got A Friend", Beautiful really is a must-see musical.



Carole King's strength, determination and amazing voice is portrayed superbly by Esther Hannaford. No stranger to the stage, Esther Hannaford also appeared as Penny Pingleton in Hairspray and Ann Darrow in King Kong. Esther Hannaford is supported by the talented, Amy Lehpamer, who plays Cynthia Weil and Mat Verevis, appearing as Barry Mann.



The feel-good show is energetic and fun while hitting some emotional chords. The rendition of "You've Got A Friend" was performed beautifully while the group numbers were choreographed perfectly with some great costumes.

Beautiful will be playing at QPAC until August 30.
