Where are Adelaide's Closest Lookouts

The Mt Lofty Ranges hem in and loom over almost the entire Adelaide metro. Here's three lookouts that are super close to the CBD. Skye lookout has a carpark nearby, while Gleeson Ridge and Netherby Spur are reached by short and challenging walks.

**Skye Lookout.

It's at the top end of Kensington Road in leafy eastern Adelaide. Adelaide locals will know it had a reputation for, well…lookout kind of behaviour. The top carpark has been closed to vehicles since 2002. From the lower carpark it's just a short walk to the lookout on a gentle paved path for some breathtaking views. The top carpark hasn't weathered very well and there are some trees blocking small sections of the view. Skye lookout is close to Adelaide with vertigo-inducing and breathtakingly wide views along the hills face. The bonus is that it's quick and easy to get to.

**Gleeson Ridge – Beaumont Circuit.
**


Somewhere in between Beaumont Common and Glen Osmond Golf Club you can park on Hayward Road. There are other safe and lawful areas near the golf course and of course watch that you don't park anywhere near any gates. You can reach the bare ridgetop of Gleeson Ridge by following one of the many walking trails that snake through the hills face and make up the " Burnside Walks ". The Pioneer Women's Trail also winds its way through the area. This grassy ridgetop has 360-degree views close to the CBD with excellent and well used trails. It's an ideal spot to bring a basket for an evening picnic on top of the world.

**Netherby Spur – Waite Conservation Reserve Loop Walking Trail.

The trail to Netherby Spur is challenging because it's so steep…but steep means rewarding, right? The views from here will have you feeling like you're flying over Adelaide's premier suburbs. It's super close to the city and you'll be looking down on the Waite Campus of Adelaide University, Mitcham, and Carrick Hill. The best parking spot is at the top of Delamere Avenue in Netherby. From there follow the loop trail . The loop trail walk takes 2-3 hours, and you should do it. It's an interesting and well signposted walk around Waite Conservation Reserve. It's super steep but the views over the city are worth every step. You might even see kangaroos and koalas on the same walk.
