From car park to open air exhibition space
It's nearly Father's Day and sales of socks, aftershave and electronic gadgets are booming. Nothing wrong with that, but this year why not do something completely different? The very first Beaufort Street Art Market is taking place on the morning of 7 September. Treat dad to a meal at one of the many cafes or restaurants then stroll to Barlee Street where the car park will be transformed into an outdoor gallery.
The car park fences will become the "walls" of the gallery and feature a variety of paintings, photography, and sculptures. They may be displayed on easels or on the fence, with some public space reserved for artists to simply turn up on the day, pay a small fee and hang their work.
The Suitcase Art Park A suitcase is the ultimate pop up shop and the Art Market has a special area set aside for a dozen mini-stall "suitcasers". As with the rest of the market, all the work is locally made and unique. Never seen a suitcase stall? Check the Facebook page for an example.
The eighteen artisan stalls will celebrate the best of local talent. On offer will be art, craft and other products with everything designed and made in Western Australia. With such a range of choices, Dad is sure to find something special.

This new event will provide opportunities for artist and buyers alike. Even better, an application has been made for Council approval to make the market an ongoing event to be held on the first Sunday of each month.
The Beaufort Street Art Market is located at the Barlee Street Car Park on the corner of Barlee and Beaufort Streets, Mount Lawley.
