Picture it. North Melbourne. No wind. Sun shining through the blinds. White walls. Wooden furniture. Small and tidy. Fantastic company. Get the picture? I know, it is hard to resist.

Beatrix have only been open 5 weeks but you wouldn't know that judging by the way they operate and their popularity.

Double Espresso. All Press Espresso.
The crema had a dark and deep colour. The consistency also matched the colour by being just as dark in flavour and just as deep with its viscosity. The flavours of the nectar beneath the cream were full bodied. I'm quite sure those flavours are still in a state of being full bodied but we can discuss parallel universes another time.

The coffee is a strong Category 2 with dark rumblings. I feel the need to describe the flavours more. I'd be as bold as saying there were nutty and chocolate-like flavours dancing around the body. Perhaps a roasty-toasty chocolate flavour, but not so chocolatey that it brings the tastes into Dark Chocolate territory, almost like borderline chocolate into dark. Yes.

Double Espresso
The nectar of gods.

To appease our gracious appetites the three of us chose several dishes that more or less represented ourselves (in the most modest way of course!).

Meals.
Two Babes and a Special Random.

Special Random
Love in a roll.

The meals were fantastic. Satisfying. Money well spent. Have you had the the hot rolls at Mixed Business Cafe? If you have or have seen them on the menu, the Special Random at Beatrix is just as good if not better. I know, I'm excited too. Good thing I'm sitting down.

The desserts (yes, I know, it was a big day) were delicious too. My companions ordered the apple tarte tin. I ordered a cocoa-mo with espresso cream (is that predictable considering my espresso fetish?).

I'll let the pictures do the talking;

Coco-Mo
Words don't even...

Overall? Beatrix is amazing.

If I lived nearby I'd be coming every week, if not everyday.
Why you go to Beatrix is up to you. You may go to have a coffee, sit at a table and watch a she-hipster in a dress talk on her phone while wheeling out her fixie and put on a helmet all at the same time. Or you could go to sit and eat and just enjoy yourself without people watching.

I'll be back.
