It excites me just to write about the sensation that is the Beatbox Kitchen. Since 2009, Raph and his team have been bringing delicious burgers to Melburnians. For those lucky enough to live close enough to the action, it could just be a stroll across the road to the park; for those passionate, it could be a trip especially into town. What do they have in common? A a delicious, semi-healthy fast food meal served with a smile awaiting them. Why not make a night of it by gathering your friends, packing a picnic blanket and a bottle of wine to enjoy dinner by the sun setting?

The menu is short and simple but that's the way the founders and eaters alike, like it. "Our menu is very small, but focused on bringing goodness to the 'hood," Raph proclaims. Choose from a "Raph burger" ($11) with a grass-fed beef patty, cos lettuce, cheese, tomato and onion in a roll. My favourite is the alternative, the veggie option being the "Shroom Burger" ($10). Inside a roll is the same as the Raph burger, except for a huge Portobello mushroom replacing the meat patty. Accompany your burger with a side or rather box of fries ($5) with mayonnaise, tomato relish, "Stereo" Sauce or spicy tomato relish topping. The burger and chips combo is really filling as a meal.

The staff (who prepare and cook the meals from the van decorated like a beatbox) play music to entertain their diners and are as friendly a bunch of people you'll find. They like to get to know their regulars personally, who in turn, spread the word, a bit like what I've just done. Take a visit to the beatbox, it won't be your last.
