The 5 Best Ways to Beat a Long Work Day in the Brisbane CBD

Surviving the workday grind is never easy, and sometimes it's impossible. More often than not, however, all you need to breeze through to the finishing line is a lunchtime recharge. Here are five things you can do during your lunch break in the Brisbane CBD to help you get there.

5. Sleep it off

If George Costanza can do it, so can you. I'm not suggesting you renovate your desk by adding a hidden hammock and while away an entire day, but an energising nap (somewhere, anywhere) might just be enough to reboot your mind for an afternoon surge. Good research indicates twenty minutes is enough, but, if you're hankering for longer, be sure to wake in time for that afternoon meeting!

4. Beer break

Again, overdoing this one might cause you more issues than it solves, but a quiet pint at the local pub might just be enough to release the pressure valve halfway through a stressful day. Try the Bavarian Bier Café on the river, Mick O'Malley's Irish Pub in the middle, or the Normanby Hotel on the outskirts.

3. Picnic/Café escape

Brisbane is packed with enough green space for all to enjoy a leisurely lunchtime picnic (if the Botanic Gardens aren't your go, try the grass on the river in West End). Just add a friend or your partner (or a good book), a barbecue chicken with salad and some bread rolls, and a football, and you'll recharge that worn down work battery in no time. If it's raining, a laidback café (think Java Coast on George Street) will equally do the trick.

2. Work…

It may sound ridiculous, but if your boss is flexible and your job will allow it, negotiate an arrangement whereby once a week you work through your lunch break in exchange for a sixty minute early mark at the end of the day. Work twice as hard during that lunch break and your boss might let you do it every day!

1. Exercise

Whether it's a brisk walk or an all-out super circuit, the panacea for beating your workday blues is a good jolt of midday exercise. Don't like the idea of sweating through the afternoon? Organise a lane at the Gardens Point swimming pool.
