The Bearded Gypsy Band has built a great name for itself with an original repertoire that is influenced by celtic music, jazz, blues, roots and, as the name suggests, gypsy music. Their instrumental line-up is guitar, violin, bass and drums: think Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli with grimy vocal grunt. It's a fabulous sound.
This local band has played at major gigs like Womadelaide, the Apollo Bay Musica Festival and the National Folk Festival, as well as prestigious small venues like Bennett's Lane in Melbourne. Though still young, they have won plenty of admirers already. Rip It Up chose them as one of their six Hot Acts of 2012.
A great setting on a sunny day
Rosemount Estate is worth a visit in its own right. It's an imposing white building with a cavernous interior and great wine to enjoy. Make sure to try the 2012 Rosemount Estate District Release McLaren Vale cabernet sauvignon, which won McLaren Vale's prestigious Bushing King award in 2013 for the region's best winemaking. If you ask nicely, they might just parade the winner's crown and robe.
