This place is the perfect response to “ are we there yet”?
After a week sitting in an office or mopping floors at home, I'm all for escaping the trappings of suburbia and heading to a rural or semi-rural environment on the weekends. That's how I stumbled across The Bearded Dragon Hotel at Lot 2 Tamborine Mountain Road, Tamborine, in the Gold Coast Hinterland and only an hour out of Brisbane.
Not happy with the thought of visiting a hotel when you have three children sitting in the back seat of the family car? Let me help you diminish those preconceived ideas ....
Firstly, The Bearded Dragon sits on 110 acres of bushland and farmland. That means that if the kiddies are getting restless with the car travel, there is enough space to run and kick a ball. Wear them out, that's always been my philosophy!
Lots of space to run and alpacas
There is playground equipment, as well as penned Alpacas which can be fed with tucker available at the bar. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays there are also reptile shows, and we know the Little People just love those creepy critters.
There is also a Children's Menu available from 10 am to 8pm across the week, with a beer garden that is particularly family friendly. We dropped by for a coffee pick-me-up, though ended up also sharing a Lamington Sandwich. Wicked, I know.
The Bearded Dragon is an establishment with far more than the normal facilities: Hotel, bottle shop, accommodation, wedding and function venue, restaurant, and more importantly to me, is a safe, clean environment to enjoy a break before embarking on any bush walks or other tourist endeavours in the area.
For information about other facilities provided, including live music and family movie nights, go here.
Yes, children or not, The Bearded Dragon is well worth a visit. We'll be settling in next time.
