Deep in the heart of Brisbane City, there lies a little dark alley way, just off the corner of George Street…

First impressions can sometimes be deceiving and this particular case was no exception. The mass graffiti art on the wall served to only heighten the looming atmosphere triggering that alert signal which every human has, causing them to turn their head 90 degrees and scurry on. Take heed my dear reader however and do not be fooled. If you have a keen eye and a dash of adventure, I urge you to STOP and look upwards. You will notice displayed high above on the windswept wall a small, lightly weathered sign gently beckoning you to enter.

The number one rule in my life is spontaneity, so my dear readers if you do indeed find yourself strolling by please postpone all "obligations" for the next 30 minutes and enter the red telephone box allowing yourself to be immersed into a hipster haven… "Bean Café."

On entering, the lighting creates a very subtle, easy atmosphere with a hint of background music immediately putting your senses at ease. I found my place in a comfy armchair in the left back corner, so I was able to soak up my surroundings with little effort.

The café was jam packed with little odds and ends, from oil lamps and record players to rich, hard back books causing that inexpressible nostalgic feeling to creep its way into your heart. Interesting paintings of all shapes and sizes lined the wall creating an absolute feast for your eyes wherever you turned your gaze

So from reading this my dear reader, you have probably gathered that the atmosphere has an absolute tick from me! Atmosphere in a café, though like the body, has no effect if the heart is not pumping out the necessities which serve to make it function properly - in this case, the COFFEE.

I decided to treat myself to my absolute favourite a Zymil cappuccino. Topped with creamy chocolaty goodness the coffee had a rich dark undertone spruced with a light sweetness but nicely edged with a subtle bitter flavour. In short, it was a masterpiece!

A list of baking treats were also on offer, ranging from chunky chocolate chip muffins and cupcakes to croissants. All the delicacies on offer went hand in hand with a nice warm drink.

`

So if you ever find yourself wondering the streets of Brisbane or eagerly searching for the next cafe you are going to tick off your bucket list, I urge you to find that little dark alley way off the left of George Street, and to take a chance and turn in!
