Event:
must love coffee and can drive
If you like coffee, you need to acquaint yourself with the guys at Bean Brewding. They hold monthly tours that educate, inform and most importantly, taste great quality coffee around Brisbane.
This month sees the launch of their first ever DIY coffee tour – Drive It Yourself, to be held on Saturday 20th June. Based on the 'caffeine crawls' of the US, the Bean Brewding DIY Coffee Tour takes in some great cafes, that are a little harder to get to than some of the others featured in previous tours (for more information about previous tours, click here).
The cafes on the DIY coffee tour include Fort Specialty Coffee in Northlakes, who are opening early especially for the tour and where you can taste a range of different sorts of coffees. Next on the cards is Neli in Clontarff who will showcase "coffee roasting with a twist", according to Glenn, one of the organisers of the Bean Brewding tours. Glenn explained "Neli will use the tour to launch their 'secret weapon'". To be the first to try coffee using this new "secret" roasting technique, you will need to join the tour. Finally, Cleanskin in Brendale will teach cupping techniques (this is the how the professionals identify, taste and grade coffee) of some unique varieties.
While an awful photo of me, you can see all the coffee love (and education!)
These places are damn good coffee places, but that are hard to get to." explains Glenn when discussing how the three Bean Brewding guys came up with their new tour. "We like to showcase different cafes, all you need to do is to get yourself there."
The tour starts early on Saturday at 6.45am and runs for several hours, until late morning. Luckily, since coffee is provided and breakfast can be purchased at the first stop, all you really need is your own car (or a friend's) to get yourself from place to place.
The June DIY tour starts at 6.45am, but breakfast can be bought at the first stop
As this is the first DIY tour, Bean Brewding are offering a special introductory rate of only $35 per person. Click here to reserve your place. This includes a bag of beans that you can take home from one of the roasters, as well as pretty much all the coffee you can drink throughout the morning. And based on the previous tour I went on - that can be a lot of coffee in one morning! If you love coffee, this is not to be missed.
