Walk down Bridge Road and pop in for a Piccolo, or two

Bean Around the World

Richmond houses some of the best coffee places and Bean Around the World is one of them. It is known and loved by locals for its well-grounded coffee, just like its name suggests. But don't just stay for that; take delight in other goodies this café has to offer, like the $2 brownies. They're just one of the many examples that will tickle your taste buds.

A good friend of mine introduced me to this café. I was intrigued at the mention of Piccolo lattes, which are often served here, so I decided to give the place a try.

We entered into a slightly dim setting, with soft tones of blue on the walls setting a cool, casual atmosphere. This hip café is an inspirational mix between modern and vintage. It was once a French restaurant, but the café attained some of its French themes. The classic European clocks on the wall and the pretty French decorations were definitely something to admire.

Our Piccolos arrived in mini latte glasses, with a little sweet treat on the side that change daily. It was a first time for me, but it won't be my last. It had a strong aftertaste, which grew on me. Piccolos are stronger than a Cappuccino, so I've been told, and have less milk. This made it easy to taste the intense flavour of the coffee beans, due to the reduced amount of liquid.

Now for the food. Bean Around the World's entire menu is budget friendly, with meals under $20. Their signature dish is the 'Nacho Style Parma': an ample serving and undeniably tasty version of the classic Chicken Parmigiana, served with thin, crispy chips on the side. A good pick if you skipped Breakfast or if you intend on sharing.

The Breakfast menu is served all day, with sweet and savoury favourites. They have a selection of tasty Toasties that will satisfy your morning munchies.

I can't quite find a word to describe this place, but whatever it's got going on, it's definitely made me want to return. If you want to enjoy good food and coffee while being surrounded by friendly faces, head down to Bridge Road. Look for the 'Bean Around the World' sign. You can't miss it.

Love the name. I often go past this cafe, but have "bean" in yet. Will do soon :)

In Bridge Road also try Cafe Azul. Great soups and foccaccias as well as very good coffee.
