Footy season is almost upon us, and it is that time to once again get in our colours and get ready to barrack our favourite teams and support Aussie Rules Footy. That is "Carn the Puttys" for me.

Personally, I believe that AFL is the only true footy, others say soccer, or rugby. That is always an argument to save up for the barbie after a few stubbies. Not too many; let's keep it friendly.

But it was a treat for me to hear on radio the other day, that our beloved game was actually invented to keep the Cricket players fit. And it has evolved into so much more today and become a national icon of Australia. Around the world it is growing stronger, as well, as overseas countries are starting teams. There is even an International AFL Grand Final Cup Game.

And now ladies are in the game as well and taking it by storm. Not to be confused with Melbourne Storm who play that ...other sport. Hopefully we will start to see the womens games being played just before the mens games each week. Go Girls!

But for this to happen, we need us all to stand up, be counted and help contribute. And we can help at the grass roots levels by supporting our local footy teams and getting our children involved with footy, very early. My daughter loves to play and at 189 centimetres she has got a great kick from about 30 meters out. We can also go to the games, buy their raffle tickets, and try to be clever at their trivia nights.

In Victoria, the Beaconsfield Football Club has a wonderful fundraiser coming up at Holmes Park Reserve, in Beaconsfield. The are hosting a FREE Beer Wine Cheese and Crafts Twilight Market. Come one, come all.

Denise Gowan, who is on the committee at the Club helping organise the festival, states, "The Beaconsfield Football Club provides for both males and females to be involved in a team environment which in turn provides an avenue to further enhance their personal and social skills in a safe environment."

And they want your support both in bringing your kids into this wonderful world of footy and attending their twilight festival. Get the kids off the couch, off the screen, off the TV and out into the fresh air of the countryside of Victoria and get fit. It is less than 45 minutes from the CBD of Melbourne, out the freeway.

What is even better, you get to meet the warm and welcoming local people, taste their local produce, and find that special craft item you would never spot in a city shop, and support the local footy club at the same time.

There will be something for everyone in the family. I won't be able to list all the events, as it's going to be BIG. But I can let you know these groups will be there to delight you with tantalizing tastes and not just your ordinary off the shelf products.

Let the list begin:

Lots of parking is available. It's a big reserve and easy to find.
Hope to see your strolling the stalls on the night.

And there are stalls left!, So if you already have incredibly wonderful crafts you want to sell, fresh produce, or just white elephant fun things, book today for only $35.
