Beechworth Bakery in Healesville

If you have ever been through Healesville in the last few years then the Beechworth Bakery will need little introduction, it stands out in the main street of Healesville with its big contemporary building it's housed in and would be one of the most frequented places in the town. The bakery is always busy from the time they open till the time they close, recently we drove through on a Sunday night around 6pm and it was still busy.
Inside is more like a cafe than a bakery and is filled with leather lounges, two fire places and plenty of tables and chairs including the front and rear decks. Industrial coffee machines were working overtime to keep up with demand along with the bakers out the back.
The display cabinets look amazing filled with sponges, lamingtons, doughnuts, vanilla slices, apple pies and much more.
At the back they have different bread varieties that were becoming limited as they were selling so fast but the hot food was in plentiful supply with pies, sausage rolls, quiche and pasties along with toasted foccacias, sandwiches and fruit toast.
Unfortunately I didn't get to taste anything, the queues were long and after waiting ten minutes and moving nowhere I decided time wasn't on my side and headed across the road to the local Bakers Delight. However, I think it would be a nice spot for lunch in front of the fire on a cold day. I'm sure the queues are not always that long, after all it was Sunday lunchtime in the school holidays and it must be so popular for a reason.
If anyone has been there recently I would be interested in your opinion.
The is a part of the many Beechworth Bakeries including
Echuca ,
Albury ,
Bendigo ,
Ballarat and of course the original
Beechworth flagship store which was established in 1984 by
Tom O'Toole which has become an incredible success with a town of only 3,000 people and an annual turnover of 12 million dollars. Beechworth Bakery in Beechworth is still my favourite, it has great food, in a great old building overlooking the main street. Sitting outside on the second floor balcony is the place to be.
