A healthy alternative to fish and chips? I never even knew it could exist until I stumbled across Beachview Seafoods on a recent trip to Caloundra. With their famous crispy thin batter from pure cholesterol free oil, I was intrigued to give it a taste test.

The humble fish and chips for $10.70
The award winning store certainly has the location sorted - it's got a prime position on The Esplande, just across the road from the river and just down the road from Bulcock Beach.

A great location for your lunch
The menu is extensive. All the staples you would expect from a fish and chip store are here - from fish of the day (battered, crumbed or grilled), potato scallop, pluto pup, Chiko rolls to hamburgers, coleslaw and even garden salads. The best buys here are the value packs, from fish and chips ($10.70), Calamari Pack, which are chips, and large crumbled Calamari ($12.60) and the Family Pack, which contains four fish of the day, four home made potato scallops, one large chips and one large calamari ($48.90).

Some of the fresh seafood on offer
I went for the usual fish and chips and wasn't disappointed. Nothing here is pre-cooked, I could stand there and watch them cook my lunch in cholesterol free oil. It was a good, simple lunch, made all the better for looking out over the river towards the northern tip of Bribie Island. It was tempting to walk over the road and lie on the grass under the shade but perhaps next time.

You cant miss Beachview Seafoods on The Esplanade at Bulcock Beach
I thought my fish has been battered well, it almost fell off my fish as I ate it - it was just that hot. The chips weren't anything special but they complimented the meal rather well.

A promising sign
Fish and chip stores are a must for any beachside town and Beachview Seafoods has got itself made in Caloundra.
