Picnics are a great way to connect with friends and take advantage of the weather. And what better place for a picnic than the beach?
Whether it's a daytime picnic with friends or a romantic midnight rendezvous, pick your spot carefully. Find a spot that is relatively sheltered from wind, as no one likes sand in their food. During the day, you'll want something that's shady and separate from the crowds. If you can't find a spot that's appropriately shady, you will need to bring a beach umbrella, pop up gazebo or tarp. You'll find most of your beach picnic needs at
BCF .
To cut down on the amount of stuff you need to bring, limit the selections to finger food platters so that you don't have to worry about knives and forks. That also means less mess to clean up and a lower risk of litter. Sandwiches, fruit, biscuits, chicken pieces and chips all make good beach picnic provisions.
And don't forget the Esky! Pack it with ice cold beer and cans of soft drink for a daytime picnic, or chilled wine and champagne for a romantic picnic.
As the organiser, you will need to arrive earlier than everyone to set up. Lay out a big blanket for everyone to sit on, making sure that the surface underneath is smooth and level. Spread out the food and cutlery so that your guests can help themselves as soon as they arrive. You might like to set up an Ipod or radio for some background music.
At night time, you will need to provide light as well. Candles and lanterns set the mood.
For a group picnic, you might like to provide games for everyone to play after they have eaten.
Frisbee ,
cricket and
volleyball are good beach games.
