The annual Australian Open of Surfing competition in Sydney and the impending end of summer bring with it a most pleasant surprise, as popular bar and eatery the Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel launches a strategically placed pop-up venue right on the glorious Manly Beach. The seemingly temporary and funky pop-up bar will begin trading from Saturday February 25th and will remain as Sydney's trendiest beach bar right up until the Australian Open of Surfing finals on Sunday March 5th.

Summer pop-up venues have been all the rage across Sydney in recent times. The launch of strategically placed beachfront and waterfront bars have even been more of a trend, arguably starting with Bondi's The Bucket List a number of years ago. The concept has been so popular in fact that The Bucket List has ended up becoming a permanent fixture within Bondi's beautiful facade. But unlike other venues that claim to be beachfront bars and eateries, the Beach Club at Manly takes the concept a giant step further, setting up right on the famous Manly Beach.

As a result, the Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel's unique creation has arguably stole the best beach views in Sydney. The accompanying scenery of Manly Beach is captivating, and the venue as a whole is very well executed. The sand and surf are also so close that they may as well be palpable, with the waves all but crashing into the venue itself.

The venue does really symbolise everyone's idealistic vision of the perfect summer. Not only is there entertainment in the form of acoustic sessions and uber cool DJs, but there are also morning yoga sessions. The venue does really reflect the ultimate beachside lifestyle, which is definitely a factor that other competing venues can't boast about.

The Beach Club will be open to the public throughout the Australian Open of Surfing's nine action-packed days. Not only is it a great place to people watch, but it is undeniably the best vantage point to take in all the top surfing action. The Beach Club is also only a stone's throw away from the giant Skateboarding and BMX competition venue, making the waterfront bar essentially the central hub and an integral part of the competition itself.

The first thing you notice as you enter the beachfront venue is the Beach Club sign lit up in blazing lights. Then the all too familiar blue and white zebra striped umbrellas, made famous by the stylish Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel. Just like its Watsons Bay cousin, the tunes from the resident DJs are uber cool, creating party vibes while simultaneously weaving a mellow and chilled out ambience. Just like the Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel, you get the comfy and chic seaside lounge furniture and ocean inspired treats including coconut cocktails and fresh seafood direct from the efficient onsite bar and kitchen.

Revellers will be able to come early and enjoy a delightful and scenic breakfast as well as fresh coffee. Guests can also, of course, have lunch in the sunshine, with sunset dinner options also available and set to feature a selection of tropically inspired cuisine. Some of the afternoon menu highlights will include seafood creations in the form of Hawaiian Poke Bowls, Coconut Battered Fish Tacos, and 4 Pines Beer Battered Fish and Chips. Those of you who happen to be oyster aficionados will also not want to miss the Beach Club's $1 Oyster Hour, which is set to happen on Wednesday March 1st from 7pm.

The Beach Club menu is as follows:

BREAKFAST MENU: - Available Saturday and Sunday

Daily Selection of Muffins & Danish's
$6

Artisan Toasted Granola - Vanilla yoghurt & braised fruit compote
$14

Smashed Avocado - Sourdough, pea sprouts & feta

$18

LUNCH and DINNER MENU:

$18

Veggie Poke - Miso mushrooms & posh radish, sesame, green onions, greens, sushi rice, crisp shallots, nori chips, spicy mayo
$16

4 Pines Beer Battered Fish & Chips - Bay tartare sauce, lemon
$16

Coconut Battered Fish Tacos - Green mango & chilli salsa, chipotle mayo
$14

Chicken Skewers - Grilled & glazed skewers, crunchy coconut & shallot salad, pineapple & chilli salsa
$16

The undeniable winner on the drinks menu is the Pims No.1 Cup. It is a creative concoction that includes strawberries, orange slices and mint, with a finish that is incredibly fresh, sweet and refreshing. Local craft beer brewery 4 Pines also seems to have exclusive rights to the venue. Their ice-cold fruity and yet hoppy selection of beers are a most welcome treat, taking Manly's new ocean side concept to a whole other level. Guests will not be disappointed.

However, it does have to be said that many of the customer service staff at Manly's Beach Club seem to be incredibly lacklustre. This goes from the girl at the front door all the way to the food and beverage staff. There is a level of complacency and lack of venue knowledge that is incredibly surprising. Whether this is a byproduct of the first days trading, or a reflection of the new breed of high-end bar staff across Sydney is a difficult question to answer. Aside from that negative, the venue is pure bliss.

The Beach Club also has a legendary line-up of activities and entertainment starting on February 25th with FREE morning yoga on weekends. This is all thanks to Power Living who will be demonstrating down-dogging and other moves right up until Sunday March 5th. In addition to free fitness, revellers will be able to enjoy FREE live music and performances including acoustic sunset sessions and DJ sets from Fear of Dawn and Audiopaxx. There will also be Rum & Reggae night with Freida Boss.

The FREE entertainment program doesn't stop there. The Beach Club will also include Surf Film Nights and a Sunset Spray Live Art Battle featuring four talented graffiti artists conjuring artful designs across Chilli Surfboards. Each unique surfboard design will be put on display during the final weekend of the Australian Open of Surfing competition. A full list of the Beach Club's entertainment and activities can be found here .

The Beach Club's hours are 11am until 10pm Monday to Friday, and 9am until 10pm Saturday and Sunday.

Guests who want to keep the summer party going are also invited to head over to the official after party location at Daniel San, across the street from the Australian Open of Surfing site. Their signature Japanese street food, rock vibes, neon lights and water views are set to be the perfect end to a great day out.

In summary, the Beach Club at Manly is the essential place to end a fabulous summer. No bar in Sydney has better beach views, and the venue itself is extremely comfortable and chilled out. The music is great, the food is fun, and the selection of drinks will keep guests celebrating summer well into the fall. Don't be surprised to see the venue become a permanent fixture, or at least a regular occurrence in the years to come. The concept is absolutely fantastic.
