Don't be intimitated by the thought of the obstacle course - participants will be able to select from either the challenge or adventure course, race against the elites or along with the family as part of a fun day out. The Saturday will be dedicated to the Junior Beach Bash, which is for 4-10 year olds. It's comprised of five to eight obstacles over 1-2 kilometres of sand. Sunday is the main event, the 5 kilometre course. The first wave will start at 7.30am and run until 1pm.

In terms of exactly what to expect on the weekend - who knows? Course obstacles vary for each event and are designed to test everyone. Be sure to check out the YouTube video below for some idea of what to expect. Looks like plenty of climbing, crawling and balancing. According to the FAQ page, the course is kept top secret until the day of the event.
One thing will be certain at the Coolum challenge - Slideshow Bob. The world's biggest inflatable water slides will be waiting at the finish line for a quick cool down.

Another great thing about Beach Bash - you don't have to do it alone. When you sign up you can opt to create a team for you and your friends. That way you will be running together side by side on the day. Not only are they there to share the experience, but you can help each other out if need be. Of course, the real challenge is to complete the course on your own. Perhaps even more challenging, do it in some kind of quirky costume. So long as you're wearing shoes, pretty much anything goes. Check out the FAQs page for more.

And of course, events like these just aren't possible without volunteers. This could be a good way to experience the atmosphere without actually getting all sweaty and sandy. Check out this page here for more information if you are interested. All registered volunteers received a meal on the day and a couple of freebies.
