I am a mum of two and Primary School teacher whose aim is to never be home during the midday movie. I believe that I am only ever a car trip away from an adventure.

Sweets, Treats and Beads
Its not unusual now days for cafes and stores to multitask and offer more than one reason for you to visit. Think nurseries with cafes for example, or in this case a lolly shop that offers jewellery making. Unusual combination but quite a winner. You enter Bayside Sweets with the intent to buy lollies and treats and you come out wearing your own bracelet creation... and you still have lollies too of course.

You can sit and play a rainy day away

You see the smart folk at Bayside Sweets in Mentone clearly understand the connection between lollies, chocolates and kids. It's an unbeatable partnership. So to encourage visitors, preferably those with a sweet tooth and children, they set up a beading table. For the teeny price of $2 for a bracelet, kids and grown ups can design away, choosing from small, plain, patterned, wooden and dazzling beads to lockets, keys and hearts to finish off their gorgeous creations.

The alphabet beads are a huge hit. We all know kids love their name on everything so vowels are tricky to find, but with many tiny coloured buckets to peruse through, you might get lucky. Surprisingly the act of picking through hundreds of beads is actually very therapeutic.

Everything you need is supplied; a couple of thread choices including a stretchy variety, a jewellery mat to experiment with colour and shape combinations and, obviously, beads galore. Its nice to just sit and play and you can stay as long as you like, no one makes you feel pressured to leave or even buy sweets for that matter. They do encourage a smile and some laughter however.

There's an extensive variety from the USA, New Zealand and the UK just to name a few. There's a very good chance you will find something amongst all the foils and wrappers that appeals to you whether it be for a gift or your own personal stash.
