is everything it should be - and you'd think it is - for a late-night pizza restaurant. Situated along the Nepean Hwy just across from Edithvale Station, to many it is the 'last port of call' for a after-evening snack, should you desire one and not be keen on a kebab.

While indeed a restaurant, also does takeaway and the wooden bench just inside the entrance is usually filled with a couple of customers awaiting their order as you walk on in. Certainly, alongside the food one of the great things about the restaurant is seeing people from all walks of life walk on in, and even sometimes bumping into a old friend or two who are making a night-time trip home through the South-East suburbs.

While all the food is good, the pizzas in particular are what gives Bayside its name and local reputation. True, they offer the traditional Italian toppings such as margherita and cappricciosa, but they also offer some toppings from left-field like the The Garlic Pizza and in particular The Secret Pizza. To disclose what is a secret of local-lore would be very wrong, but the author can say The Secret Pizzas toppings shall be at once surprising, yet familiar to anyone who loves Italian food.

Across all their toppings - secret or otherwise - is a consistently rich taste. The pizzas are generously sized, strong in flavour and built on a good crust.

It is open from 5pm-late (usually to around 1am) Tuesday through to Sunday (closed Monday) and having been in the shop for 30 years the owner - an expat Italian who runs the restaurant alongside his family - offers not just good pizza but a warm welcome to all who come in.
