Learn how to be a Baykeeper citizen scientist, who can do shoreline shell surveys and beach profiling.

Part of the Port Phillip Ecocentre seminar series, its will explain the importance of shoreline shell surveys, which give "great insight on exactly who lives just off our shores and why they're so important", and share information on research on molluscs that is currently being done, as well as the diagnosis of the health of Port Phillip Bay.



Focusing on Port Philip Bay, the seminar will take you on a journey along the bay's shorelines to discover all the amazing creatures living on the shoreline and you will learn more about their habitat and why they are so important to the health of our Port Phillip Bay.

Citizen science is important because it increases the amount of data scientists can collect for analysis. In addition, citizen science enables you to make a direct contribution to research, increase your scientific understanding, and immerse yourself environmental issues.



The seminar is taking place on the 7th of May 2020, starting at 6 pm and ending at 7 pm, and will be given by Port Phillip Baykeeper, Neil Blake (OAM).

He works tirelessly to keep the bay in good health today and for future generations through a combination of practical action, advocacy and education. He is featured in the short documentary film, Baykeepers, which won Best Short Documentary at the Oceanside International Film Festival. It looks into just how far microplastics have polluted Post Phillip Bay and how scientists and locals are working to keep its beaches and waterways clean.
