Born in Madeira, raised in Sydney, living in Melbourne and dreaming of Bali...

Gone are the days (and nights) of sitting along the main strip at Brighton Le Sands with a hearty pasta or greek salad dish, now that the new Bay Vista cafe has re-invented itself as a dessert style bar.

Many locals had reminded me of late, that the new Bay Vista cafe had re-opened and deserved a visit. So last weekend, I popped in for a late evening dinner snack.

The venue may be all shiny and new, but the main reason for going to Bay Vista, or any of those cafes along the busy Grande Parade, was always the food (and the fact that you could laze around comfortably for hours on end without ever being asked to leave).

The food options were limited to variations of pancakes, crepes and other sweet and savoury desserts. Only one page of 'normal' food was available - and included a few basic pizzas and salads.

Already disappointed by the food menu, we were then informed that we had to go to the counter to order - hello take away shop? So, off I went and asked for the Margarita pizza and a lemon lime bitters for myself.

Firstly, the drink was not made fresh at the bar as I had hoped, but instead, came in a glass bottle with a plastic straw. And, when my pizza arrived I knew that I would either need to order more food, or go swiftly to bed in order to stop thinking about my grumbly tummy.

The size of the pizza wasn't much bigger than my hand, and although it tasted fine, it did not exactly rock my taste-buds.

My friend ordered a Spanish latte - a regular latte with a side of condensed milk. She seemed to enjoy it, but I guess you'd have to like the sickly-sweet flavour of condensed milk, right?

Overall, it was not a horrible experience, but unless I have a craving for some sugary sweets, I would not choose to go back there. Until then I will remain slightly disturbed and confused by the super-shiny brown tiles in the bathroom...

I disagree with your article. Obviously you were not in a good mood when you went :) Try their nutella crepes next time and you will not be let down, plus their pizza sizes are quite filling, were bigger than my hand! :))))---and really they are only snacks if you go there for dessert :))))
