Bay Terrace Seafood & Sushi has opened its doors with much fanfare and it promises "'the best locally sourced seafood with only the finest selection of seafood dishes, handmade sushi, cocktails, wines and beers available".
The shop front on Bay Terrace is spacious, clean and presents fresh seafood on ice along with packs of sushi to take out or consume at the window bench.
On my impromptu visit, I opted to dine in upstairs. The space is so welcoming with high industrial ceilings softened with oversize cane lighting. The Hampton Scandi space and style draws you in and invites you to stay awhile. Watch the master sushi chef in action over a cool glass from the bar.
The menu, like the vibe, is relaxed and not bogged down with ordinary. It blends the modern Californian style with classic Japanese balance. Choose from Sushimi plates of Salmon, Tuna or Kingfish or mix it up with an assorted share platter.
The mix was sweet and clean and fresh and presented on ice. We followed up with a zuke salmon lightly marinated in konbu tsuyu that was bursting with flavour. Oysters, Hervey Bay scallops, prawns and a variety of freshly cooked seafood, along with chicken, steak and vegetarian options are available for non seafoodies.
