Be prepared to get wet but that’s part of the fun
As the days get longer and the sun regains its bite, residents from all across Brisbane are looking for an escape from the heat, as well as an escape from the humdrum of life.
So what did I stumble across over the weekend? The perfect outdoor, warm weather activity in South East Queensland to lift your spirits.
Bay Island Stand Up Paddle Board And Kayak Hire are located on the first beach along Masthead Drive at Raby Bay Foreshore Park. Specialising in Stand Up Paddle Boards to cater for beginners through to the experienced, they also have a kayak fleet that includes single and doubles as well as kayaks for fishing.
If you are new to this sport and want to learn more about stand up paddling you can book a Beginner Group Lesson which runs every Saturday at 9am. During this time you will learn correct stroke techniques, learn how to read the conditions of the bay and most importantly, plan your route to ensure you make it back safely from experienced paddlers who are happy to share their knowledge.
Raby Bay Foreshore offers sandy beaches which are suitable for paddling at both low and high tide. And of course just gazing at the water is calming, isn't it? So this where I get really excited because you can also purchase a coffee and a bickie from Managers Ashley and Karen, taking in all the activity from dry land. For some of us of a certain vintage that's quite enough energy expended, thank you.
The beauty of paddling is that you just don't stick to the beach. Once you have the knowledge and technique you can paddle along the Raby Bay canals, around to the iconic Cleveland lighthouse, or you can investigate the mangroves.
They are open for business Wednesday to Sunday 8am to Dusk (times do vary). Times are subject to change- pending weather &water condition. Open ALL public & school holidays.
Raby Bay Foreshore Beach has picnic and barbecue facilities, toilets, playground equipment, and car parking. It is a twenty-minute walk from the Cleveland Railway Station and other public transport so making a day of it is a viable option.
