Bay City Burrito does some of the best Mexican in St Kilda. Looking out onto Luna Park, Bay City Burrito sits on Shakespeare Grove, just off crazy busy Acland St, making it a great location for a slow lunch. My friend brought me here since it's her favourite burrito place. It's also a great venue for people with foody needs like veganism and gluten-free (she's the first, and I'm the second). Bay City Burrito's menu gives both of us plenty of options, which is always appreciated.

We sat outside to enjoy the sunshine, along with a delicious, authentic margarita. One of these beauties will only set you back $9.90, any time of the week or day. And we wouldn't be doing the lazy Mexican lunch right if we didn't enjoy some margaritas.

On Tuesdays they do $5 tacos (they're $5.90 - $7.90 normally), so I went for the 'Street Taco', with chicken, Spanish onion, coriander, chili salsa and cheese. The best thing about the taco, apart from the fresh and tasty ingredients, was the corn taco itself. Their tacos are thick but not chewy. They actually taste like corn, and are just so good with the fresh fillings. All the tacos are gluten free, so I plan to work my way through the list. In terms of portion size, two tacos would do me happily for a light lunch.

Today however I was starving, so I also ordered the Bay City Nachos – a plate of their homemade nacho chips with hot cheese sauce, fresh tomato salsa, and guacamole as extra. While they'd be enjoyable without, I do recommend the guacamole, because – well, everything is better with guac. This dish was so tasty – such a great mix between the fattiness of the cheese and the freshness of the salsa and guac. Their corn chips are really good – crisp and tasty, a perfect base. And even with guac they only set me back $11.50.

My girlfriend went for her favourite burrito, the 'California', which doesn't come in a gluten free option, though does keep her vegan soul happily fed.

The staff here are lovely, very accommodating and welcoming. The interior has a simple, beachy feel to it, making it a great spot for food at any time of the day.

Did I mention the cheap margaritas?

I've found my new favourite St Kilda haunt.
