I am a weekend adventurer and enjoy getting out and about with the family. I live in Brisbane and my main loves are food, sport and kid related activities

Good food, good beer, good fun
The Bavarian Bier Cafe has a fantastic location right on the water at Eagle Street Pier. I was there on a Saturday evening and the place was pumping. There are quite a few outside tables - the most popular - and plenty of inside tables for dining or sitting near the bar. The staff are dressed in traditional, with a twist, outfits. There is also a cowbell which rings constantly announcing the delivery of schnapps to a table.
The dinner menu has plenty of choice including several schnitzels, lots of pork, fish and steak. Three of my group chose the pork belly. It was a large serving of pork with impeccably cooked crackling, which is the main attraction of the dish right? It came served with red cabbage, sauteed potato discs and lowenbrau bier jus. Delicious. Our other diner had a cold cuts platter with condiments and home made bread which looked and tasted good without being spectacular. We also had a pretzel each to start. These were chewy and delicious served with a bit of butter. Unfortunately we were all too full to contemplate the dessert menu.
The drinks menu has heaps of variety. I was tempted by the pure beers which are made using only malt, barley, yeast and water. My Hofbrau Original was pleasant to drink and a couple of glasses didn't leave me feeling bloated like other beers can. We also indulged in a schnapps from the selection of 12 or so flavours on offer. Jagermeister was our choice and at $7.50 was cheaper than a lot of other places.
After dinner we sat at the bar and soaked up the views and atmosphere. Staff are friendly and efficient and there were plenty of people who all seemed to be having a great time. We left around 11.30 and the crowd was thinning out by then.
