For me there is something nostalgic and a little romantic about a ride on a steam train. As you sit in the old-fashioned leather seats the motion of the carriage gently rocks you from side to side. You can feel the wind in your hair from the open windows and hear the puffing of the steam train as it chugs along. These sights and sounds all transport you to another era, when steam engines ruled the rails.

You too can experience the sights and sounds of this bygone era with a steam train ride at .

On the weekend of 4th - 5th June 2016 you can jump aboard a historic steam train. But it is not just any old steam train, it is the largest operating steam locomotive in the Southern Hemisphere - the Beyer-Garratt 6029.

First built in the 1950's, the Beyer-Garratt 6029 operated for nearly thirty years in NSW and the ACT. On its retirement it was donated to the Canberra Railway Museum but was in a state of disrepair.
