Really get into the swing of things and attend Le Bal-Electro Swing on Saturday 14 July 2018 from 6.30-10.30pm under the arches of the Meat Market's atmospheric rooms for this huge Bastille Day Bal! Grab your tickets if you're in for a night of champagne and good times. Your MC for the night is Fanny Bouffante, fresh off the 2018 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, who authored the best-selling book 'French Women Do Everything Better'.
The lineup for the night includes Smokey Joe & the Kid, two funky guys from Bordeaux, having a bit of a break from touring Europe, for an Australian first. A unique blend of Hip-Hop and Electro is their thing and they'll be jamming just for you. DJ incontroL, with half a lifetime spent on the European music scene in his back pocket, is a pioneer of Electro Swing and coming straight to you from New Caledonia. His influences are Afro-American music flavoured with tech or urban moods
What would a festival be without its markets. Chooh La La are a familiar sight around Melbourne at markets and festivals, with their oh so fresh and crispy, irresistible nuts. Look forward to Great Ocean Road Mussels and of course the most authentic saucisson in the country. There's a whole lot more to choose from, to get your taste buds going!
The full two days of entertainment will include live performances like CrossXswords fencing demonstrations, a French language choir, a Melbourne-based French-inspired ensemble, some Melbourne French Theatre, a trio with a distinct touch of Europe and the world and Moogy, who will be channeling the feels and sounds of France, Françoise Hardy, Serge Gainsbourg and France Gall.
Enjoy Special Events with Luv-a-Duck Cooking School, talks on the French Revolution, a peek into William Tell, Victorian Opera and of course a mysterious taste of France in the dark. Be sure to make your bookings, so you don't miss out! If you're after Masterclasses and Workshops, be sure to pre-book for all masterclasses, talks and movies and jump the queue by buying your entry ticket at the same time, to go through the 'priority entry' line.
There's a SwordPlay Fencing Program for children under 13, a French Trivia quiz, a French wine and cheese tasting, a guide through the history and culture of the wine region and tastings of four distinctive wine styles, a how-to get that French Chic and attitude masterclass, and a whole lot more. Don't forget to check out the art exhibition that features the work of three French artists in a celebration of street art. Meet the artists and enjoy watching them paint live!
Paint your day with a touch of le cinema with poignant stories for adults and children alike, ranging from animation, drama, romance, and doco style film clips. Last but not least, there are activities for the kids to enjoy, as long as they have a parent or designated adult who is responsible for them in accompaniment. Suited to little ones, they can enjoy craft activities like colouring, paper crafting, play dough, badge making, some French storytelling and more. There's even a mini Monet art prize in the wind for creating a priceless work of art.
With prizes to win, and a host of activities and more, including getting dressed up for Le Bal, check the website for all details. Have fun and go all French chic on the day! And no, I'm not going to say oh là là, but it's going to be an amazing two days!
