Located near the Bassendean Train Station, Bassendean Oriental is a Chinese restaurant that offers a wide variety of foods available for take-away, delivery and dine in.
Don't be alarmed by its appearance. Sure, it may look every bit the run-down Chinese restaurant, but I assure you that this particular restaurant brings new meaning to the age-old adage, "Don't judge a book by its cover."
When you arrive you're confronted by a solid wall of faded white-and- cream, tacky lights flashing overhead and a dimly lit interior that screams 'suspicious' - not to mention that next door the locals at the pub are getting a bit rowdy.
Then you go inside, and…well, it doesn't really change. It's still just as run down and tacky.
However, Bassendean Oriental more than makes up for all of this with her excellent service and delicious food.
You barely have to wait before a beaming waitresses rushes out to serve you. Whether you choose to take away or dine in, I assure you the waitress will be friendly, polite, and will practically bend over backwards to make sure you - the customer - leave feeling satisfied.
And then there's the food. Well-cooked and well-seasoned, it's the kind of food you'd expect to find in a far more expensive restaurant. If I may suggest something, you simply have to try their vegetarian spring rolls. They're to die for. Actually, everything on their menu is to die for.
So don't be scared away by her outside appearance. All-in-all, Bassendean Oriental is well worth the trip.
