Featuring a carnival, a concert, family fun and fireworks
Every year the riverside suburb of Bassendean throws an Australia Day party and with this being the tenth annual event, you can bet it will be a fair dinkum celebration. The Australia Day Concert & Fireworks gala provides hours of live music, carnival rides, a unique performance artwork, and to top it all off, a brilliant fireworks display.
The family-friendly evening offers something for everyone. Enjoy a picnic or purchase food from one of the stalls, try the sideshow rides or watch the stilt walkers, then relax to the sounds of Room for Reason, a pop/rock duo that promises "You can expect Laughs, Cries and the want to Rekindle that spark with the one that got away – A whole family Experience, No F Bombs!". Later in the evening the aptly-named Boom! Bap! Pow! will have everyone up and grooving to their mix of soul and pop.
This year's celebration features a unique event with artist Phil Doncon. Watch his Paint Storm performance as he creates a massive 10m wide canvas inspired by all things Australian, done to an energetic soundtrack.
After all that excitement it's time to relax and enjoy the big event at 8 pm when a fabulous 10th anniversary skyshow fires off with new special effects and a simulcast soundtrack on 98.5 Sonshine FM.
Note: Parking is strictly limited. Enter off Fisher Street and follow the signs. A $10 fee applies to designated parking zones.
You are encouraged to walk, ride or catch a bus or train. Cyclists can leave their bikes in the free secure 'Bicycle Valet' and will go in a draw to win great prizes.
This event is proudly supported by Lotterywest, 98.5 Sonshine FM, Channel 9 News, and the Eastern Reporter.
