The biggest decision of the day was what to choose from the extensive menu of all-day breakfasts, lunches and sweet treats. And watching the waiters delivering a variety of dishes to our fellow diners didn't make the choices any easier!
Basket Brothers is a bright, airy and conveniently located cafe in Sydney's CBD, close to Central Station and a stone's throw from Surry Hills. With an industrial, rustic feel to the decor and light streaming through the floor to ceiling windows, Basket Brothers offers diners a place to relax, enjoy a good meal and drink and watch the world go by.
The friendly staff provide just the right balance of service and space and are more than happy to share their knowledge and mouth-watering descriptions of the dishes on the menu.
We were at Basket Brothers for brunch and couldn't decide whether to go for the Berries Brothers Goodness (acai, assorted berries, chia seeds, mixed nuts, banana, seasonal fruits & coconut) or the Sweet Tooth Toast (Chocolate Soil, pistachio, berries, vanilla mascarpone and maple syrup)? Or how about Spiced Avocado (spiced avo, cherry tomato, dukkah, feta and a poached egg on sourdough) or The Brother's Basket (eggs, bacon, chorizo, truffled mushroom, spinach, roasted tomato, house relish, hash brown & sourdough). Allow 15 minutes to peruse the menu!
After much deliberation and a smooth brewed cappuccino to clear our heads, we settled on two dishes that we'd seen fellow patrons order and devour with gusto - the Truffled Mushrooms (sautéed mushrooms, 2 scrambled eggs, wilted spinach, halloumi , white truffle oil on sourdough) and Brother's Veggie Basket (eggs, bacon, chorizo, truffled mushroom, spinach, roasted tomato, house relish, hash brown & sourdough).
The food was fresh, full of flavour and the generous portions were beautifully presented - all at prices that were more than reasonable for the quality and quantity. This was a brunch that would keep us going for the rest of the day but had we wanted something lighter or snacky, there were plenty of options on the menu. Toasties, omelettes, sandwiches, wraps, as well as gluten-free, vegetarian and halal food - diverse and inclusive - and meals suitable for the kids. Something for everyone.
The lunch menu boasted burgers, smoked beef brisket, steak sandwich and a range of delicious salads.
And just when you thought Basket Brothers' extensive menu had it all covered, you look up and see the Specials Board which means the choice you thought you'd just made is possibly about to change!
Basket Brothers is a real treat and offers something quite different and refreshing for a cafe in the centre of Sydney.
We'll certainly be visiting Basket Brothers again and would recommend it as the perfect place to enjoy breakfast, brunch or lunch for city workers or those that just want to start the day with a hearty and healthy meal.
