Affectionately known as 'Basils' by those who frequent the small Newtown restaurant, the website boasts "the most authentic, Italian pizza Newtown has ever tasted" and an "Italian experience right in your backyard". Those claims could not be more correct, with the restaurant being licensed so you can enjoy a wine or two with your meal.

[ADVERT]Opening daily at 5pm for dinner, Basil Pizza gets busy of a Friday and Saturday night as locals and visitors alike flock for a feed before or after a night out. But any other day, you're sure to find customers in the store, dining in or picking up take-away meals (delivery also offered for some inner west suburbs).

Basil Pizza's popularity comes from the fact that not only are their meals delicious and extend beyond just pizza and pasta to seafood and salads, but also because they offer a large range of vegetarian and vegan options. The Animal Lover pizza is favoured by vegans and non-vegans and is the equivalent of a Meatlovers (which Basil Pizza also offers). The other pizza of choice for vegans is the Vegan Lovers, but if you're looking to try something a bit different, you can't go past the Fasolada (vegan) or the Acapulco (non-vegan), which both serve up a meat and cheese laden base with red capsicum and guacamole on the side.

Make sure you get yourself some garlic bread or pizza bread with your meal to get the full Italian restaurant experience (both can be made vegan on request).

For the wonderful quality of the food you get, the pricing is reasonable, with pizzas starting between $10 and $14 for a regular size (personal pizza size), $15 and $20 for a large (personal size or share size), and $20 to $25 for a family size (definitely a share size or personal on a really empty stomach).

A good dine-in experience is offered with the option of table service. The meals are also cooked to order, which unfortunately means there is a long wait time, however if you're out with friends or family, it gives you the opportunity to have a chat. And after all, good things come to those who wait.

is located at 126 King Street Newtown, and is just a ten minute walk from Newtown Station, and close to bus stops coming to or from the city along King Street.
