The Bath Hotel on The Parade in Norwood has long been a local hotspot. It underwent serious redevelopment a few years ago and BASE is a bar and restaurant offering that's replaced and extended the original outdoor area.
The interior is filled with warm tones and bare brick walls (probably better suited to winter) with high ceilings and plenty of space. The outdoor deck is bright and breezy and often filled with people.
The menu features a range of wood oven pizzas, tapas, grazing boards and desserts. The tapas includes delicious morsels like arancini balls, oysters and sliders. There are also specials during the week.
We chose the chicken pizza and prosciutto pizza along with a caramelised pear, rocket, walnut and parmesan salad and chips. The food was ready super quick and was at our table in around ten minutes. The caramelised pear and walnut salad is fresh and balanced and the chips were well received by Miss thirteen. The pizza bases are thin, light and crispy and hold the toppings well. They have bits of yummy burned crust on the edges to boost the flavour. The napolitana sauce on both is fresh and fruity while all the toppings are as described with fresh rocket and parmesan added to the prosciutto pizza after cooking. I always love this fresh edge gourmet pizza maintains over the fast-food dross out there.
All up, BASE at the Bath Hotel is a good spot for casual after work drinks and meals, or a quick and honest new-age pub grub fill up. BASE at the Bath Hotel is on The Parade at Norwood on the corner of Queen Street and is open 5 pm til late Tuesday - Thursday and 12 pm til late Friday - Sunday.
