We recently stayed at the Barwon River Holiday Park and explored the nearby surrounds.... And do you know what? The kids absolutely LOVED IT! "When can we go back?" was the question we were asked before we had even checked out. It just goes to show that a weekend away doesn't need to be far from home, nor cost a fortune to be enjoyable.

Although camping can be cheap and fun, sometimes it's nicer/easier to stay in a cabin. We booked a two-bedroom poolside villa for our stay, and couldn't have been happier with it.

'Poolside villas'

Our 6 berth poolside villa consisted of two bedrooms. One with two sets of double bunks, the other with a queen-size bed. The queen bed was actually really comfy, and the room had its own T.V (which was perfect for my husband who had 'man flu' and was in need of downtime.)

The cabin deck was literally metres away from the pool, which naturally made it a nice spot to sit, relax and watch the kids swim from (competent older swimmers).
Cooking up a family feast for growing, super active kids was easy in this well laid out kitchen. It had absolutely everything we needed.
Though we did bring our own sandwich press for toasties!

Other accommodation options you'll find in the park include an array of standard and budget cabins, caravan and camping sites, along with some sites that have their own bathroom facilities (as pictured below).

Overall summary:
The owners/park managers were extremely flexible when it came to us needing to change the dates that we had booked on two previous occasions before our stay (due to unfortunate, unavoidable circumstances). They were not only very understanding, but went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and make our stay memorable.

Staff were friendly and constantly busy, buzzing around on a little golf cart maintaining garden beds, cleaning amenities, and carrying out other general park maintenance.

Our cabin was spotlessly clean and comfortable.

I would definitely recommend a weekend away with your family in this park.

Though one of my favourite things was simply strolling through South Geelong and Belmont, looking at these beautiful homes.
