On June 1st, 2014, our first stop was Texas Hamburger and Pizza House. Then we headed to Barwon Heads Hotel to sit in the courtyard, under the heaters, chatting over a beer, watching the river, listening to the rain pouring onto the outdoor umbrellas. It wasn't really a pub crawl, more a meander or cruise. We spent the day cruising around Geelong, finding nice places to sit and eat or have a drink, coffee for the driver, beer for the co-pilot.

The Barwon Heads Hotel is found at the mouth of the Barwon River. The Barwon River flows through Geelong, to the mouth of the river, where it empties into Bass Strait at Barwon Heads.

The Barwon Heads Hotel is a lovely coastal hotel, close to Barwon Heads beach, the river mouth, and local shops. A short drive across the Barwon Heads bridge will take you to the Ocean Grove beach.

The Barwon Heads Hotel is found in the coastal town of Barwon Heads. It is a great place to enjoy a meal in the large dining room, or you can sit outside, under the large umbrellas, with the gas heaters going overhead, and enjoy the view of the river, the bridge, and the ocean.

The Barwon Heads Hotel provides quality, affordable food, friendly service and live music and entertainment. The Barwon Heads Hotel offers dining in the bistro restaurant or bar meals in the BAK bar, there is a bottle shop, live music, accommodation for families or couples, and you can even hold your next big party there.

For the golfers out there, the Barwon Heads Hotel is only a short drive to two of Australia's top golf courses. It's also close to some of Geelong's premier surf beaches. The Barwon Heads Hotel has accommodation available. Book a weekend at the Barwon Heads Hotel, take in the beaches and scenery, play some golf, or even enjoy some fishing. There is plenty of sightseeing too, with the Great Ocean Road not too far away.

About the Barwon Heads Bridge

In 1927 a twin lane wooden bridge was built between Barwon Heads and Ocean Grove. Before that, a ferry, owned and operated by Tom Abernathy, was how people got from one side of the river to the other. The old wooden bridge was used in the filming of the ABC television series SeaChange. In 2010 the new Barwon Heads Bridge was built.
