I'm a freelance writer who lives on the Bellarine Peninsula. I enjoy finding new things to see and do in the beautiful area that I live in. I'm also a booklover- see my reviews at acomfychair.com/profile/52/

It's not unusual to come across themed bars and pubs in Australia, or indeed, the world.

Bartronica, Melbourne

They usually cater to a particular clientele, yet remain accessible enough so that others who happen upon the location are also able to enter and join in the fun. Over the years, we have seen drinking venues pop up that cover the styles of different periods in time (like the prohibition era), places that resemble science labs, and even kitschy-looking tropical-themed bars.

There are games to cater to all tastes

But what about a place for the gamers?

Well there is a board game café located in Melbourne (see JMBowen's review on Marche Board Game Cafe), but if you're after a gaming and drinking experience with a more electronic feel, then you need look no further than Bartronica, located at 335 Flinders Lane in Melbourne's CBD.

There are plenty of spaces to take a break from gaming and chat with your friends

Electronic pop beats and a short staircase lead you down from the street into a haven for pinball lovers and vintage arcade game aficionados. Featuring over fifteen machines to play, Bartronica caters to fans of the new and old, with pinball machines of Game of Thrones and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy found alongside old classic arcade games like Time Crisis II and console games like Mario Kart 64.

Enjoy playing games both old and new

Patrons can play the games while drinking from a select menu of beers, ciders, spirits and cocktails- some of which run with the gaming theme. Sip on a Princess Peach Ice Tea or sample a Pinball Draught as you work on beating the highest score for each machine- a large chalkboard near the entrance of the room conveniently keeps a tally of the high scores so that you can challenge yourself. With two change machines located within the premises, a beer garden for smokers, bar stools and tables for when you need a break from gaming, and little wooden stands to rest your drinks on when playing, this bar has everything that a pinball and electronic gaming enthusiast could need.
