Devour tacos while sippin' on tequila at trendy Barrio Chino
It's no secret, Australians love Mexican food. Even the pickiest diners can knock back a burrito and a margarita before you can say 'tequila'. And even though Aussies aren't experts when it comes to preparing Mexican food, we are certainly improving. So move over Taco Bill and enter Barrio Chino.
Barrio Chino - Enjoy a romantic dinner for two or a boozy soiree with a group of friends
Located in the heart of Sydney's Kings Cross, Barrio Chino attracts the trendy, the stylish and…the famous. The likes of Leonardo Dicaprio and Tobey Maguire have repeatedly dined on the Mexican fare that the chefs at Barrio Chino prepare so well. And that's saying something.
Ultra cool decor combined with food that makes your taste buds sing gives this Mexican restaurant a funky edge
The menu is best described as Mexican tapas with a twist so expect tacos and tostadas rather than huge burritos. Also expect a combination of flavours that just party in your mouth all night long. For fish lovers, the tuna tostadas and Baja fish taco are a must. The carb conscious can choose from various nutritious and delicious salads (think leafy greens with quinoa, walnuts, beetroot and a habanero honey vinaigrette). Of course, for those who must have a steak when dining at a restaurant, you can enjoy one - with chimichurri sauce and chilli salt potatoes.
Whatever meal you enjoy – and believe me you will enjoy it - wash it all down with a beverage chosen from an extensive drinks menu. Toss back a margarita as spicy as your taste buds demand, or sip away on a Mexican beer, soda or wine. For the hardcore among you – how about sippin' on tequila that has been aged for 3 years? Or just shot it. Whatever.
Delicious margaritas, Mexican beer, wine and tequila - what more does one require? Not much. Not much.
Even though the tuna tostada and churros are reason enough to visit Barrio Chino, it is also worth mentioning that food is served until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. Yep, that's right, no need to stop at Maccas, soak up that alcohol in style.
