Can you hear that sound? Barrio Beats Latin Festival is coming.

Get your sultry salsa hips and your cumbia flavour, along with your reggaeton swagger ready and merengue-march on down to Carclew House, North Adelaide on Sunday 9th September from midday till 8pm for a Latin style party you'll be talking about for weeks. It'll only cost you $10 for a ticket, or $8 concession & Kids under 15 are FREE.

That's not all that's free though with free face painting from 1:30 to 3:30pm, a visit from everyone's favourite Latina cartoon character Dora the Explorer from 3 to 4 and pinatas throughout the day.

For more adult fun there will be a Latin style bar serving Chilean Wines, Mexican & Cuban Beers and Cuban and Brazilian cocktails. Can you say delicious Caipirinha with me?

There will also be handicrafts stalls featuring Mexican & South American jewellery and artesania, Peruvian alpaca garments and lots more.

Where I was really sold on the idea of the whole shebang however was when the mention of food cropped up. Food available on the day includes Empanadas - Chilean meat or cheese filled pasties, Asado - South American style BBQ, Nachos - Corn chips smothered in beans, salsa, guacamole cheese and Completos - South American hotdogs with avocado, mayo fresh salsa (pevre) and apparently that's not all with many more dishes from Argentina, Venezuela, El Salvador and Spain. I hope there's Paella. It all sounds so good that you'd have to be eating all day to have any chance of trying everything.

There will also be La Bomba Latin Dance Shows and Come n Try Workshops in Samba, Reggaeton, Bachata, Ladies Styling, Salsa, Rueda and Zumba(TM).

Then there's the music. Musical styles and flavours being featured include Old and Nu Skool Salsa, Funky Bachata, Merengue, Cumbia Urbana, Reggaeton, Electro Tango (I wonder if it takes more than two to Electro Tango?), Samba de Carnaval and Zouk Beats.

Confirmed music acts include Los Pibes Quartet Band (Sydney), multi-instrumentalists Enrique Berbis (Argentina) and Steve & Cesar Marin (Chile). Then the collaborations continue with talent from around the whole world on display including Los Lobos (USA), Dominic Marte (USA), Aloe Blacc (USA) (of I need a dollar fame), Osvaldo Chacon (Cuba), Maelo Ruiz (Puerto Rico) & Luis Rico (Bolivia). Also featuring D-Minus (aka Danny Sanchez) and Las Chicas Bomba. And on your DJ decks MC MAXIMO (El Salvador, Adel), DJ Pato (Chile/ Melb), DJ Kris de Cali (Colombia/ Adel) and DJ Pippo (Argentina/ Adel).

Sounds like an absolutely huge day of infectious Latin American fun with something for everyone - from the catchy beats of the much-loved rhythms to the food, drinks and market stalls. Then add all those great free activities for the kids and it sounds like a great event. So why not get your J.Lo booties down to Carclew House, 11 Jeffcott Street, North Adelaide between 12noon and 8pm on Sunday 9 September.

Cost: $10 or $8 concession & Kids under 15 are FREE
