Wet your line and head to Rockhampton to target your trophy barra this year. Starting at midday 1 February to midday 1 November each year, you are allowed to target barramundi and take home your catch. When the season closes, barramundi must not be targeted to allow the fish to spawn. If you happen to catch a barra within the season's close, just remember to release it back into the water.

WHERE TO FISH
Rockhampton region has the largest river system with a large delta and interconnecting creeks, as a bay with islands and reefs. The floodplain holds several freshwater lagoons, brackish lagoons and waterholes. So where to fish around Rockhampton?

Fitzroy River (Tunuba)%%
There are several spots good for fishing along Fitzroy River such as Quay Street Boat Ramp, along Victoria Park, Ski Garden near the barrage and plenty more spots.

Port Alma
About a 45 minute drive south of Rockhampton and is the main access point for Casuarina Creek, Inkerman Creek, Raglan Creek, Connors Creek, the Narrows, the northern point of Curtis Island and Yellow Patch.

Mount Morgan No. 7 Dam
About 40 minute drive from Rockhampton. This place is suited for family outings with BBQ facilities, playground and many more.

HOW TO FISH**
You can go on the boat, either bringing your own boat or using charters and boat hire. But you also have options to do land-based fishing. Most fishing destination around Rockhampton has boat ramp or pontoon that are perfect for land-based fishing, such as Quay Street Boat Ramp, Littler Cum-Ingham Park, Reaney Street Boat Ramp, Robert Clark Drive Boat Ramp, Queen's Wharf Jetty, Ski Garden Boat Ramp , Larcombe Street Boat Ramp, Donovan Parkland based fishing platform, The Bend, Queens Parkland based fishing platform
