Looking for somewhere to eat that is a bit fancier than a cafe but not as expensive as a fine dining fancy restaurant? Barendoe should be considered. It has a modern yet simple atmosphere, and is not as noisy as busy cafes.
Located on Hutt Street, Barendoe offers a fair range of Mediterranean cuisine. If it is a quick business lunch, you can choose from their tapas menu, and share dishes such as crab diablo or arancini balls. If you are after a bigger meal, their mains include a good range of pizza, pasta, and a whole lot more.
Crab Diablo - crab with cream, chilli, garlic, parmesan, breadcrumbs and herbs, served with seafood rice
We shared the crab diablo for entree between the two of us, which is a good idea, as it is probably too much for one person. For mains, we had a fusilli ragu pasta and a mediterranean chicken pizza. The ragu pasta was full of flavour, and I can imagine it would taste just like how an Italian mother would make. The pizza was average, but I love my pizzas anyway, so it was still polished off without any problems.
Fusilli Ragu - home made egg pasta, cooked slowly with tender veal pieces with herbs, in a napolitana sauce
Barendoe also has a good selection of wines to go with their food, as well as a few desserts. If I worked in the city, I know where I would go to catch up with a friend, or have that business lunch meeting - yes, Barendoe restaurant.
