House prices in La Jolla were the most expensive in the USA in 2008 and 2009. With that kind of money around the 'Jewel City' it's not surprising that there are some interesting shops about to tempt the affluent community.
Right in the heart of downtown La Jolla, on lively Prospect Street is Bardot Bar. If the name is conjuring up images of cool cocktails then think again, this is a different kind of bar. It's an ice cream bar. The sleek lines and arresting window poster stop you in your tracks and encourage a peak in.
A large frozen glass display cabinet is artfully filled with hand held ice cream bars. These are the pinnacle of individual ice creams. There are three designer collections. In the classic collection you could start with an 'Old School' which is vanilla ice cream made with vanilla beans from Papantla in Mexico and smothered in 60% dark Belgian chocolate or sample the 'Honey I'm Home'.
If you're looking for something a bit more adventurous, then move on to the Bardot Collection. Bardot describe their 'Inner Peace' ice cream bar as "The Freshest, best quality raspberry ice cream with a layer of rich and creamy matcha green tea. Covered with raspberry coverture.
As with all successful designers, there's even a kids collection specially designed for your hip little ones.
These luxurious treats can be enjoyed indoors on pillar box red chairs in this sophisticated parlour, or wander along the street and down to La Jolla Cove.
