Bardon Community Markets

Early One Sunday morning
I love a good market but living in Auchenflower, I don't always feel like a long drive to get to one. The answer is the local community market at Bardon, cnr Rainworth and Baroona Roads held on Sundays. It describes itself as " a diverse farmers' market limited only by how kind the weather has been to our farmers".

I have been a number of times and found a great range of produce, delicious ready to eat food and a sampling of crafts. Most recently I was reminded what a great range this small market has. From Randall's Antipasti with everything you could want for an Italian feast, to the great fruit at Berrylicious, The Unwaxed Apple, Stockman's Choice Meats and Shereen's Seafoods and some other great stalls with honey, gourmet breads, fresh farm eggs, fruit and vegetables. You can easily shop for the whole week plus the odd special occasion.

In addition to foodstuffs there is a small but growing range of craft, plant and bric a brac stalls, including Mt Buffalo Leather sandals, Orchid stalls, handmade wooden toys and Paws mobile dog hydro bath and dog treats stall. Some stalls are monthly rather than weekly and this helps add to the variety.

Once you've done your weekly shopping you can settle down in the food court and choose from French macarons, Happy Little Dumplings' Pork dumplings or pancakes, coffee, chai tea and sweet treats and Brat Haus Authentic German Sausages. There is ample undercover seating or if you have the kids you can take your snacks down to either of the neighbouring playgrounds. Some days you can even watch a local cricket match. There are toilets close by so there is everything you need to settle in for the morning.

This is definitely a cosy market but its advantages include this cosiness as well as easy parking, a great location and if you're a local the chance to catch up with friends at the food court.
The market is open Sundays 6 am to 12 noon (except Easter Sunday) and is located in Baroona Rd, in between Norm Buchan Park and Governor's Hill. New stallholders are welcome and the markets offer thrifty fees for stalls.
