During summer plenty of our regular activities move to a new place, the beach. From open air cinema, to sports like beach cricket or beach volleyball, we like things by the sand. So why not add a spot of theatre to the list of things you'll be enjoying on the beach this summer? are performing two classic Shakespeare plays throughout January and February, with their productions of Macbeth and Twelfth Night.

The shows run from the 13th of January till the 4th of March, so there is plenty of time to make it to one. You don't need to buy tickets in advance, just turn up on the night and head to the Band Rotunda at Balmoral Beach , at the park nearest the Bathers Pavilion . All shows kick off at 8pm. You'll be asked for a donation at the end of the show, $20 per person for a night of theatre.

The Tragedy of Macbeth is one of Shakespeare most well-known plays, and has been made into multiple films and modern adaptations. will be performing the play as Shakespeare intended. Macbeth and Banquo come across three witches who deliver them each prophesies, which all surround a battle for the throne. It is a story of murder, madness, witches, and kings, and is one of Shakespeare's great tragedies.

Or if you'd prefer something a bit more lighthearted head along to the Twelfth Night. When a woman, Viola, is shipwrecked she pretends to be a man, only to fall in love with the duke she serves, who in turn is in love with another woman who is falling in love with Viola. It's a comedy with a case of mistaken identity, and one of the most complicated love triangles ever written.

Leave your deck chairs at home, you wouldn't want to block anyone else's view, but bring along a picnic basket and be prepared for a good night. If you don't feel like bringing your own food from home, the rotunda is right around the corner from cafes and a fish a chip shop, where you can grab a bite to eat before the performance. Try and get there a bit early for the 8pm shows, that way you can make sure you can get a good spot.

So get ready for a night of theatre under the stars, and enjoy Shakespeare the Aussie way, on the beach with good friends and a bottle of wine.
