Sometimes if you walk down the right back alley in Melbourne, you can find exactly what you were looking for.

When you walk in to , everyone, even the musicians playing the music in the stereo, take their hats off to welcome you. Well that may be an exaggeration, but only slightly, as everyone is made to feel welcome here.

28 Watt lights. Black and white floor tiles. Wood. Brass. Candles lit. It's 4:30pm and candles have been lit. A gentleman's etiquette guide sits on the counter. A cocktail menu reminiscent of prohibition days in America. Great music is playing against the backdrop of the two maestros behind the bar preparing an orchestra of cocktails and bruschetta for some ladies who have just come in.

I'm all about mood and feeling, and creates both.

Before I launch into the nectar that they poured for me a few things to note...

It is not pretentious. You're not made to feel uncomfortable and the hospitality is fantastic. While I was there, some lady customers came in who were at first a little hard to please when it came to drink preferences - "Oh no not Tequila! I vomit every time I have it!" - but the the gentlemen behind the bar found what they liked and made great cocktails for all three ladies which suited their palates and needs.

They have opened with a rule about no photographs. Some places in Melbourne have said no to photographs and bloggers after having been open for some time, and then retract the rule after not knowing how to police it. This irks me. however have opened with that rule, so I have more respect for them in that case - which is why I only took a photo from the outside.

Double espresso. Coffee Supreme. Boxer Blend.

At the helm of the Synesso machine the maestro works his magic and produces a full bodied brunette with a sense of humour. This drop is lovely and rich, some may say as smooth as a martini. Caramel lashes with rounded chocolate undertones. Being a coffee enthusiast and also occasionally hard to satisfy with coffee, the coffee here was fantastic.

Do not go looking for lattes or anything that starts with m and ends in ocha. Their coffee menu is simple: Caffe, Latte Macchiato and Cappuccino. End of story.

The fact that they are open until 11 pm Monday to Saturday sets my heart on fire and makes me want to put on my good jeans and feel confident about myself. Yes, Melbourne is slowly learning about serving good coffee until late in the evening.
