I was taken here for the first time a few weeks ago. I'd heard people raving about this place and it was always on my to-do list but somehow I just didn't believe it would change my life.
Well, let me tell you... Now that I've been, it has changed my life. And all for the better.
Coming along Glen Osmond road, it can be easy to miss. You need to keep a watchful eye as you don't want to go by without going inside. As soon as I stepped through those doors I knew I was somewhere pretty special. The staff were welcoming and friendly and never short of a smile. I find a cafe experience is always heightened by the attitude of the staff and Bar 9 is not let down in this fact. You can tell that these people really love to work there as it shows when they take the time to pay individual attention to customers. Just on this fact alone, Bar 9 gets 5 stars.
Now that I've hooked you on great service, wait till I tell you about the menu.
Never in my life have I been to a cafe, sat down at a table, brought a mug to my lips and tasted something so utterly divine that I feel like I've died and gone to caffeinated heaven. This is exactly what I experienced when I tried coffee at Bar 9. If I wasn't already happy, after one sip I was elated. The coffee is incredible; it's smooth and rich and doesn't leave that bitter aftertaste behind like I find a lot of coffee types do.
For all you coffee snobs out there, Bar 9 uses two blends: Black Label (Colombian Caldano – Brazil Santa Antonio – Ethiopia Kochere) which is their house blend. It delivers a smooth, rich and body-driven texture with subtle spice and soft flavour undertones.
Barista's Blend (El Salvador Hondurita – Ethiopia Sidama Ardi) which is an ever-changing espresso blend that the baristas enjoy and mix up for the hardcore coffee lover.
If I've lost you somewhere around "blend", just trust me; their coffee is to die for. It's competing for Kristen's Best Coffee in Adelaide award - an award I've created just for Bar 9.
If the coffee doesn't sell you on this place, maybe the atmosphere and charm will. Its rustic design and cool and chilled out atmosphere may be just the thing that drags you over. If you're a fan of old-school pizzazz, you'll love the vibe of Bar 9. And hey, the first time I went along, a waitress placed "Bunnies' ABC" in front of me, and here I was thinking, "Well... okay... if I decide I want to read something, it might as well be a children's book" until I opened it and saw that it had been transformed into a menu. Now you can't say that's not a bit cute.
Do yourself a favour and head along to Bar 9; perfect for time spent with friends, partners, kids, or alone if you're looking for some space.
Specialist Coffee Boutique - yes, it definitely lives up to its name!
